Course Overview

The Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) is a nationally recognised, Ofqual-regulated qualification for professionals responsible for maintaining and improving assessment quality within organisations.

It equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills to:

  • Plan and manage IQA activities

  • Monitor and support assessors

  • Ensure assessment decisions are valid, reliable, and fair

  • Maintain compliance with legislation and awarding body standards

  • Handle assessment information securely and ethically

Who Is This Course For?

Ideal for professionals working in or moving into roles such as:

  • Internal Quality Assurer (IQA)

  • Lead IQA or Assessment Centre Reviewer

  • Apprenticeship IQA

  • Training Centre Compliance Officer

Learners should already hold an assessor qualification (e.g., Level 3 CAVA, A1, or D32/33) and have access to a workplace where they can carry out IQA activities.

Course Structure

Learners complete two mandatory units:

  1. Principles and Practices of Internal Quality Assurance

  2. Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment

Assessment

Competence-based, using workplace evidence such as:

  • IQA monitoring reports and observations

  • Professional discussions and reflective accounts

  • Records of standardisation meetings

  • Written assignments and witness testimonies

Duration & Progression

  • Typical completion: 8–16 weeks

  • Progression: Level 4 Certificate in Leading IQA, management qualifications, or senior quality assurance roles
